About the USSU: What is the USSU?

Founded in 1909, the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union is the representative body for all University of Saskatchewan undergraduate, extension and certificate students.  We are a non-profit corporation governed by an elected five-member student Executive and University Students’ Council.

Membership in the Students’ Union is compulsory for all full-time, part-time and off-campus undergraduate and certificate students, with student fees adjusted accordingly -click here for details. The Students’ Union represents student concerns to the University, city, provincial and federal governments. If you believe student life could be improved, please stop by and talk to an Executive member.

As a member of the USSU you are entitled to take advantage of the Students’ Union’s many services.  All students are also invited to attend the weekly University Students’ Council meetings.

If you have any questions or concerns about the University or are having problems in your academic or non-academic life, contact us.

How The Students’ Union Governs Student Affairs
An elected Executive of five members and University Students’ Council (USC) represent the academic and non-academic interests of U of S undergraduate students.

USC is comprised of the Students’ Union Executive and 27 Councilors. There is one Councilor for each college and an additional Councilor for colleges with more than 1,000 students enrolled. There are also seats for representatives from Residence and the Indigenous Students’ Council.

USC makes all major decisions for the Students’ Union.  These decisions are then carried out by the Executive.  The Executive members chair committees and the seven working boards of USC, which include both Councilors and representatives appointed from the student body (Students-at-Large or SALs).

USC meetings are held weekly from September to April – all USSU members are welcome to attend. Meetings are held Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in Room 77 Lower Saskatchewan Hall.

The Students’ Union also holds its Annual General Meeting in late November.  This meeting gives students the opportunity to propose and vote on constitutional amendments.
