Student Union Encourages Students to Sign Up for Orientation 2009
(August 14, 2009) With the academic year at the University of Saskatchewan just a few weeks away from starting, the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union is encouraging new students to the University to sign up for Orientation 2009.
Orientation 2009 is a series of sessions overseen by the U of S to help ease the transition to University for students who are new to campus. The sessions include tours of campus to show students where to go and how to get around the University.
The deadline for students to sign up for Orientation 2009 is August 17th. Orientation 2009 is scheduled to begin on September 1st.
According to USSU President Warren Kirkland, the call for students to sign up for Orientation 2009 is partly motivated by the increased amount of construction activities on campus – in particular the renovation of, and expansion to, the Place Riel Student Centre.
“We’re right in the middle of renovation and construction activities at Place Riel, which has resulted in service disruptions and relocations, and construction detours that students, especially those who are new to the U of S, need to be aware of,” said Kirkland.
Renovation and construction at Place Riel began in April of this year, and is expected to continue until the fall of 2010.
Kirkland said the disruptions and detours are an unfortunate reality, but are worth it for U of S students in the long-term.
“When the expanded and renovated Place Riel has its grand opening next year, it will be bigger and better than ever, and will be a huge benefit to all students on campus,” said Kirkland.
“In the meantime, we’re doing our best to help students get access to services they need, and in getting them around campus. At this time we’re asking for patience while work goes on to make Place Riel a great place to be.”
