Pride Centre: Programs & Services

The USSU Pride Centre supplies information on safer sex, community organizations, as well as free condoms, latex gloves, dental dams, and female condoms. The Centre also offers information on local and national Queer news and community LBGTT2IQQ events.

In addition, the Centre has an extensive collection of books and magazines focused on sexual orientation and gender identity issues. Our library is available for all undergraduate students at the University of Saskatchewan.

Peer Support:

Pride Centre volunteers are trained in LBGTT2IQQ issues and offer informed, confidential support. Students may be referred, when necessary, to an appropriate organization, counselor, doctor or other professional.

Housing:

  • The USSU Housing Registry can be found online at http://online.ussu.ca
  • University of Saskatchewan Residences: Students may request in confidence to be matched with an LGBTA-friendly roommate under Special Considerations category. Please contact Sylvia Cholodnuik, U of S Residences for more information at 966-6775.

Speakers' Bureau:

Do you have any questions about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transexual, two-spirit, intersex, queer, or questioning issues?

The USSU Pride Centre's trained speakers provide educational presentations and workshops that can be designed to meet the needs of your workplace, residence hall, class or community organization.

If you would like to book a Speakers' Bureau presentation, please email the centre or call 966-6615.

Discussion Groups:

The USSU Pride Centre operates informal discussion groups open to anyone who wishes to attend.

Some offerings for the 2010/11 School Year include:

  • Transgender & Transsexual Community Group:

Every Tuesday at 4:30 in the USSU Pride Centre there will be a Transgender & Transsexual Community Group meeting. If you or if you know of someone who is struggling with gender identify or are looking for a community of like minded individuals who are traveling down a similar gender path, then this is the group for you!

  • Rainbow Coffee Hour:

High School Gay Straight Alliances members are welcome to join us at Browser's Used bookstore and Internet café every second Thursday starting at 3:00pm-4:00pm January 20th, 2011. Rainbow coffee hour allows for a safe space for GSA'S to meet and discuss what is going on in their schools and communities. This is also open for University students who wish to volunteer through the USSU Pride Centre to help develop GSA's within other high school and help organize Rainbow coffee hour.

  • Queer women's night:

Every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 4:30pm. Potluck once a month. A group for queer women to hang out and discuss relevant topics.

  • Queer men's night:

Bi-weekly starting at 4:30pm Wednesdays February 2nd. A group for queer men to hang out and discuss with.

  • Lunch time movies:

Wednesdays at 12:00pm starting February 2nd.

  • Gay gym:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:00-3:00pm in the PAC. Avery will be there with a Pink ALLY button on, join him to work out.

  • Stitch and bitch:

Join us on Mondays at 12:30-1:30pm for some tea or coffee and take a break from the textbooks while knitting.

Discussion groups operate during Regular Session and are facilitated by our volunteers and coordinator.
